The Slim-Jim is a classic - it offers a fair amount of gain and when made from "ladder-line", can be rolled-up and transported in a bag/suitcase. It's a great aerial for /P as it can be mounted high up a telescopic fishing-pole. Our kit includes everything you need to build the aerial with just a soldering-iron and a pair of wire-cutters. We've marked the bottom-part of the ladder-line where you'll need to solder the coax - minor tuning may be required with a simple SWR meter.
There are plenty of Slim-Jim calculators online so there's no secret to how it's built - but pre-packaged kits are a cost-effective way to build as they include not only easy-to-follow instructions, but give you all the parts and the confidence that it'll work first-time. This is a great project for any Foundation/Intermediate licence-holder or perhaps a "club build" event - when buying 3 or more, they are just £8 each!
Difficulty : 2/5 - Some soldering experience is advised, but, with care and/or guidance, this project can be suitable for a beginner. Some assistance may be required during the SWR/matching process.
This is a complete antenna kit that just requires a suitable length of coax to connect to your radio.
M0PZT says: "These are great for portable operating events - I mount mine about 2/3 up my 10m fishing-pole which also supports an Inverted-V linked-dipole. Great for keeping an ear on the local repeater or to give extended simplex range from a hand-held."
If you have a requirement for more than we are showing in-stock, perhaps for a club-build - please get in touch.
